The Imagineering Story Episode 1 Review

Disney World. We all know and love it. We have memories there that we will cherish forever. We are introduced to new worlds of wonder. But how was it made? Well, this documentary answers Disney Land’s origin story. I loved this episode because it had archive footage and new interviews of Imagineers (the name given to Disney Land employees) reflecting on how they created it. Each scene shows new and interesting bits of lore on how Disney Land came to be. As someone who loves creating things and also has very fond Disney memories, this documentary hit the spot. Walt Disney’s perseverance was very surprising and made me think, “Huh, you know, after he borrowed all that money, what if Disney Land flopped?” I’m glad that didn’t happen, but if it did we may not have the amusement parks we do today. Some of my favorite parts:

  1. Learning about each phase every attraction went through to be fully realized. Pirates of the Caribbean was the most interesting. The art process was fascinating, the animatronics were awesome and out of ALL people, the ride’s narrative was written by a Winnie the Pooh storyboard artist.

  2. Learning how “It’s a small world,” one of the most iconic songs of all time, was conceived.

  3. The Abraham Lincoln animatronic was so cool to see come alive.

I recommend this documentary to anyone who likes Disney. It’s really interesting! Onto Episode 2!
