One Piece Chapter 987: It’s an all out war!

The battle against Kaido has officially begun. This is a crazy way to start! The chapter starts with the Scabbards attacking Kaido, like they were at the end of Chapter 986. At first none of them are able to hit him. But they tackle him down to the plaza floor and Kin’emon and Denjiro are able to pierce him. They stab him through his scar that Kozuki Oden gave him. He screams, which I found surprising. The Scabbards are definitely bringing some power to the table. But something later in the chapter tells me they might not make it out alive. Next we cut to Orochi’s servants finally gearing up for battle. This is something exciting to me because they haven’t really done anything in the story combat wise. But I also feel like they’ll be disposed of quickly because of the opponents around them. As Luffy and Yamato start running towards Kaido they are stopped by Ulti. Yamato clashes with her and says “I don’t care if my father dies!” We already knew that Kaido was abusive towards Yamato and that she hated him, but now we know the true extent of that. Big Mom sees Luffy and comes towards him. It’s hype to see them collide again after almost 3 years in real time. In the commotion of the situation Nami and Carrot escape the Yo-Kai. Next we cut back to Kaido reflecting on how the Wano Samurai have gotten from Punk Hazard all the way to Wano. He calls the Straw Hats his enemies which is sort of a sign of respect. Kaido usually just takes out his enemy in one hit (like he did to Luffy earlier in Wano) and thinks nothing of it. But here is clearly something bigger than just a random rebel in the street. This is a real enemy. Okay, back to the story, Kaido tells the Samurai about how the Straw Hats will betray them but Kin’emon says that the Straw Hats aren’t like Kaido and that Luffy will become King Of The Pirates. This scene is awesome to me because it truly shows the faith that The Scabbards have in Luffy. Big Mom and Luffy are talking and Big Mom asks him if he’s going to say something ridiculous but in the most Luffy scene ever he says: “This is an all out war! I’m gonna kick all of your guys asses!” As we cut around Wano we see all of Luffys allies for the upcoming battle. Zoro, Hawkins, Kidd, Law and most surprisingly to me we see Marco and Pero Spero teaming up. I didn’t see that coming. Now back to the Scabbards and Kaido… HE FINALLY TRANSFORMS INTO A DRAGON!!!!!! This was so hype and the art for these panels is fantastic. But then a bombshell hits. Nekomamushi brought all of the Mink tribe with him and they all look at the full moon, so they’ll all turn into their Sulong form. Woah. This chapter was just a lot of setup, It wasn’t my favorite but the setup will definitely have some big payoffs.
